The camp I booked was located close to Muizenberg (were I took an uber ofc) and it is a super nice place. Two dogs greeting you and a super warm welcome by the owner. They have a nice yoga studio and big terrace.

I was so nervous about my first surf lessons the day after my arrival. Funny part about the camp was, that everyone who was there was german and swiss.
First day of surfing taught me that everything I thougt about myself being a bit sporty is a lie. We did a first surf lesson in the morning 2 hours then lunch and another 2 hours of surfing. Basically the exhausting part is getting punched in the face wave by wave by wave when you walk back to catch one. and paddeling - you paddle a lot.
But as exhausting it is - as much fun it is when you stand on the board the first time of your live catching a wave. Like any intense sport it gives you a state of mediation and a dose of endorphine and in my case also a feeling connection with nature; the water, sun, wind and waves. Just doing nothing but being in the moment focusing on the sea.

So my schedule was getting up at 7a.m and starting with a nice long meditation in the yoga studio which was so magical. This meditaion was also joined by Sheila the dog that always asked for cuddles or sits on me while meditating.

After that we had breakfast and analyzing the surf videos from the day before and getting some improvement tipps. At 9 a.m. we drove to Muizenberg, putting on 1kg of sunscreen 50+ (still most of of got sunburned) pressing ourselves in the wetsuits an go surf. When we came back in the afternoon we had time to chill a bit, take a shower and then join the yoga class before dinner. I really liked this routine with more hectic and exhausting but fun surf mornings and yoga in the evening. It is a good balance indeed.

The last evening in the camp we went to the wine yards Cape Point which is a very beautiful place, where you can sit on picnic blankets in the green with a spectacular view for sunset. Also there is a food market and as it is at wine yards, obviously you drink wine there. After not being able to get an Uber back the camp and a german guy was driving us all home, we conintued with a sing and dance party in the jacuzzi.

As fun as this evening was as terrible was the morning, when I got up for breakfast. At least I can make a check at the bullet point “Surfing with a hangover” but it wasn`t the best decision ever and I skipped the second session. I chilled at the beach and got myself a vitamin C smoothie to get back to life. In the afternoon I ubered back to the house in Newlands that I stayed before and I already missed the surf camp schedule, people and dogs.
I was so scared that I will never manage to stand on a board and in the end we learned so much in these days, I met beautiful souls and it was honestly better than imagined.
